Varamahalakshmi festival is celebrated to invoke the blessings of Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu for peace and prosperity. It is a grand festival celebrated in Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Onam, which falls on the same day as Varamahalakshmi festival this year, is the biggest festival of Kerala. It is festival of harvest and is celebrated with joy all over the state. A popular legend states that Onam is celebrated to welcome King Mahabali, whose spirit is said to visit Kerala at the time of the festival.
